Al-A'raf is named after the heights between Paradise and the Fire, where people who can see both sides stand. Around that centre it tells the fullest sequence of prophet narratives in the Qur'an, from Adam's fall to Musa's forty nights.
At this pace the whole surah takes 69 study days.
Study days are days you actually sit down to memorise — miss one and the plan simply moves with you.
The refusal to prostrate, the respite, the whisper about the tree, the leaves of the garden, and the descent.
Study days 1-9
Take your adornment at every mosque; the exchange between the people of the Garden and of the Fire; and those on the heights who know each by their marks.
Study days 9-20
Nuh, Hud, Salih and the she-camel, Lut, and Shu'ayb — and the towns whose people felt secure from the plan of Allah.
Study days 20-34
The staff before Pharaoh, the magicians who prostrated, the plagues, the sea, the calf, the forty nights, the tablets, and the people of the sabbath.
Study days 35-57
'Am I not your Lord?'; the man who was given Our signs and cast them off; take what is easy and turn from the ignorant; and the closing prostration.
Study days 58-69
The surah begins Iblis's story with a refusal to bow and ends the human story with a covenant taken from every descendant of Adam before any of them existed.
A short walk through all 5 sections of this surah, in the order you will memorise them.
Book a first lesson with a Quran teacher and bring this schedule with you. Many of our teachers offer that first lesson free.
