Ash-Shams is eleven consecutive oaths — the longest run in the Qur'an — leading to one sentence about the soul, and then the story of Thamud as the illustration of a people who chose the other outcome.
At this pace the whole surah takes 5 study days.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا…وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا
Sun, moon, day, night, sky, earth and the soul proportioned — then who succeeds and who fails.
Study days 1-4
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ…وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَٰهَا
The most wretched of them sent out, the she-camel of Allah and her drink, and the levelling that followed.
Study days 4-5
The oaths pair opposites — sun and moon, day and night, sky and earth — and land on the pair inside a person: the one who purifies it and the one who buries it.
